Now we see the same thing with Vista and Server 2008: the desktop OS came out 1 year (approx.) before the server OS. Bottom line: when they release SP2 it will be the same service pack for Vista as the one applied to Server 2008. The OS is intelligent enough to pick and choose the components of the SP that apply to it's particular version. A second release of Windows Server 2008, called the Windows 7-based Windows Server 2008 R2 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009 and became generally available on October 22, 2009. New features added in Windows Server 2008 R2 include new virtualization features, new Active Directory features, Internet Information Services 7.5. See Microsoft’s article, Extending free Windows 7 security updates to voting systems, for more information. On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will end extended support for their Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems. After this date, these products will no longer receive free technical support, or software and security updates.

Certain operations, such as rename, that you perform on files or folders that are on a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) may fail with the error, “STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL (0xC00000A5)”. This occurs when you perform the operation on a CSV owner node from a process that doesn’t have administrator privilege.
Affected platforms:
  • Client: Windows 8.1; Windows 7 SP1
  • Server: Windows Server 2012 R2; Windows Server 2012; Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1; Windows Server 2008 SP2
Workaround: Do one of the following:
  • Perform the operation from a process that has administrator privilege.
  • Perform the operation from a node that doesn’t have CSV ownership.
Next steps: Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
